Team

Advisors who have done this themselves.

Everyone here has sat on the selling side of a table. The people we bring to your deal aren’t analysts who studied a business like yours — they built one, ran it, and sold it.

Leadership

Who you’ll be working with

JP Midgley, co-founder of Tempest M&A Advisors
Co-Founder

JP Midgley

JP built a company, ran it for years, and grew it to eleven locations and 180 employees — organically and through acquisitions, partnerships, divestitures and acquihires — sitting in both the buyer’s seat and the seller’s along the way. Then he sold it, which meant first working out whether he actually wanted to, a decision that took considerably longer than the sale did. That period, before anything was certain, is the reason Tempest exists.

He leads client relationships and sell-side strategy: working out whether it’s time, what the business is genuinely worth, and what a deal needs to deliver beyond the headline number. He brings a strong grounding in strategy and data analysis to that work, and a style of leadership that starts with empathy.

Jon Bates, co-founder of Tempest M&A Advisors
Co-Founder

Jon Bates

Jon has spent thirty years leading companies, twenty of them in the C-suite as a president, COO, and CEO. He was brought into six companies to prepare them for sale, and all six sold. He sat through the diligence, helped negotiate the terms, and has led five integrations from both sides of a deal. One of those six was JP’s company: Jon was COO when it sold, and succeeded JP as CEO.

He leads the preparation side of an engagement: the financial modeling, getting the business ready for what a buyer will test in diligence, and planning what the company and its people look like after closing.

Founder advisors

Someone who has run a business like yours.

Alongside the two of us, Tempest works with a bench of founder advisors — people who built, owned and sold businesses of their own across a wide range of industries.

We bring them into an engagement where their experience makes a difference. They know what it takes to run a company like yours, how buyers in your space think, and what the diligence questions feel like from the owner’s side of the table, because they’ve answered them themselves.

Built and sold a business of your own? We’re always glad to hear from potential founder advisors — get in touch.

One conversation. No pitch, no pressure.

Thirty minutes to talk through where you are. You don’t need to decide anything.
